Ahmed Hussen; our MP and the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship; announced that Canada will allow a third gender option on passports. Those who do not identify as male or female will be allowed to choose “X”.
In in the press release, Hussen said
All Canadians should feel safe to be themselves, live according to their gender identity and express their gender as they choose. By introducing an “X” gender designation in our government-issued documents, we are taking an important step towards advancing equality for all Canadians regardless of gender identity or expression.
While interim changes will be rolled out by the end of this month, the government printing presses will need to be retrofitted, and that will take longer.
