Frances Nunziata’s email circular includes some great news about the Humber River bike trail. She says construction will soon begin to extend the trail 600m along the river. Crews will pave the dirt path that exists now.
The new path will not solve the biggest problem with the Humber River trail: the gap between the northern and southern sections. The paving this fall will exit the river bottom at St Phillips, leaving bicyclists and pedestrians to battle traffic along Weston Road for a few hundred metres before they will be able to rejoin the path where it begins again behind Dairy Queen. Preliminary work has already started.
Closing that gap will take time. City staff are studying it.
