Gang prevention town halls in Ward 5

The police will be hosting a series of town halls in  the Weston area to address gang membership and violence.

The meetings will be

  • This Wednesday from 6–9 p.m. at York Rec
  • This Thursday from 6–9 p.m. at For Youth Initiative Youth Centre at 1652 Keele St
  • Wednesday, November 20 from 6–9 p.m. at Weston Mount Dennis Community Place Hub at 1765 Weston Rd.

The Community Place Hub will be hosting its Fall Festival on September 13 from 3 to 7 pm.


Colin Mendez Morris will be performing “Joshua Glover: The Opera” in Little Avenue Park. The opera tells the story of Glover, a slave who was freed, recaptured, and imprisoned before coming to Etobicoke. It is part of the Arts in the Parks Series.

UrbanArts is hosting the “Living Black Genius” program starting September 24.

Living Black Genius is an immersive program that highlights and connects prominent Black Canadian leaders with youth and the larger community.
When: Tuesday, September 24th 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Where: UrbanArts at Artscape Weston Common, 34 John St (York)

 

 


The Weston Historical Society will be having a walk to discuss the Humber River, on September 28, starting at 1:30.


 

Air Canada wants Ramp Agents.

Pearson Airport is the second largest employment zone in the GTA and working there is a natural fit for Weston and Mount Dennis residents since it’s a short hop away via the UP Express..

Air Canada is advertising full-time jobs for people who can lift repetitively, are able to work nights and who also possess a G or G2 driver’s licence.  The starting pay is minimum wage but they pay benefits, pay for training and provide employees with career development plans.

Interviews will be held on Thursday, September 5 beginning at 10:00 am at 2150 Islington Avenue. Apparently it’s first come, first served.
