City committee recommends electrifying GO Transit

A city subcommittee says that GO Transit should be electrified as soon as possible. The Planning and Growth committee now wants City Council to tell Metrolinx that we want electric trains because they are faster and will allow for more GO Stations.

The committee received advice from Transport Action Ontario, the Clean Train Coalition, and the Weston Community Coalition.

City Council will vote on the motion on April 2.

  1. As soon as possible … And whose assessment will decide that timing? Metrolinx, with its reputation for misinformation and protection from filibustering Liberals, Albanese among them?

  2. And will the City put money toward this, or just leave dump it on the Province like the Feds, with all the uploading, downloading they both do? Now that Cheri has admitted its ‘political suicide’ to demand funding, I’m sure all this voting and asking will be as effective at achieving electrification at Sullivan’s impotent ‘asks’.
