The city transportation department recommends that left turns from southbound Weston Road be permanently allowed onto both John and Lawrence. They say that this can be done “without unduly impacting the operation of the intersections.” Turning at these intersections was temporarily allowed as part of the UP Express construction.
Interestingly, the city says they have no idea why left turns were forbidden in the first place, and they note that drivers could, if they wanted, take a short cut onto Rosemount and cut past CR Marchant. Permitting left turns on Lawrence should ameliorate that.
Lawrence and Weston, they say, is also a safe intersection; there has been only one minor accident there since turning was permitted in 2012.
