Upcoming events

Your humble correspondent neglected to mention that this weekend will, among other things, be “shop the neighbourhood”!

The MDCA will have its annual general meeting on December 14 at the Mount Dennis Legion (on Weston Road south of Eglinton).  Doors open at 6PM. It sounds like it’s going to be a great night:

Our indigenous neighbors will open the proceedings, reminding us of our connection to the land and our shared histories in the Humber Valley and Black Creek area.

Our featured speaker is the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources of the Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Chris Ballard. You will also have a chance to hear from our MP, MPP and City Councillor, and to ask questions of both Laura Albanese and Frances Nunziata (unfortunately MP Ahmed Hussen has to be in Ottawa that evening, but will have a video message for us).

Our program will speak about the progress of the EcoNeighbourhood in 2017 and the great outlook for 2018. Learn more about it, how it might affect you and how you can get involved.

And we’ll have representatives and information tables from other organizations.

At the supercoffee mural ribbon cutting, War 11 Councillor Nunziata complimented Mount Dennis and Weston for retaining our small town spirit, and for the initiatives that are leading to renewal.  Our AGM is your opportunity to participate.

  1. That’s okay, it’s understood.

You have a life beyond this web site.
And as always, thanks for your effort, in general.

Another thing that the site missed recently was an important meeting on Wesdnesday night at Weston Memorial Jr. PS, with the invitation posted within the Councillor’s weekly newsletter to the ward on Nov.10th.

    Topic: “Weston Community Safety Meeting”

This was held in view of the most recent, violent crime in the community. But, evidently not necessarily originating in Weston.

Too bad this note was missed to inform those who read Weston news on this web.

And, I must add that I hope it’s not a partisan oversight when it comes to certain politicos in the community because planned community meetings like Wednesday’s are important & helpful community notes too, along with the Santa Parade, bikes lanes and come shop the neighbourhood notes.

Anyway, I’m sure it’s a tough job managing this site, and editing which info is deemed worthy of posting.

Nevertheless, thanks for trying to inform & entertain.cover.

Oh, as for crime concerns at that meeting.. Weston is not as bad as we’d be led to believe at times. And, not any more “criminal” than any other challenged neighbourhood in the city – north, south, east & west – and there are plenty others, that according to police notes at the meeting, and the primary concerns voiced by many in attendance. It was a full house.
