UPX fares to plummet

Well, holy shit.

You’ll soon have all-day, 15-minute service downtown for $6, if the Globe and Mail is to be believed. Metrolinx is slashing fares on the UPX .

Sources say that people would be able to ride the train from Union station to Bloor west or Weston for the equivalent of GO rail fares, which would mean the price dropping to under $6 from around $11 to $15.

My heart is racing. Really. My mind is spinning.

If this is true—a big if—nothing could be better for this corner of the city. We will soon have affordable, express transit downtown and midtown, and a connection with the subway. This could be the beginning of something great in Weston. We could be a commuter centre, with affordable housing and easy connections to the highway and downtown.

  1. Oh Adam, I will be taking it at that price….but don’t kid yourself….commuter centre? No……never. Not until they clean up all those ugly buildings lining up along Weston Rd (oh and dont forget we are getting another building) rid us of all those ugly shops, etc etc etc…..

  2. After checking it out, I was surprised to see that the fare from Weston to Bloor is exactly the same as Weston to Union. I suppose that the GO fares aren’t really set up to be 1-stop. I’d say we should advocate for the Weston-Bloor (Presto) fare to drop to from $5.05 to $4.71 (the same as the Bloor-Union fare).

    That said, fantastic news nonetheless.

  3. This really is tremendously positive news! We will now have affordable rapid transit from Weston to downtown every 15 minutes, 20 hours of the day, each and every day! Think about that. Metrolinx is finally getting it right!
