UPX ridership has tripled since fares dropped

The Toronto Star says that “Two months after the Union Pearson Express slashed its fares, ridership on the troubled airport rail link has tripled”.

The UPX is still nowhere near covering its costs, however, and is losing, the Star says, around $20 million a year. Your correspondent took it a couple of weeks ago and was boggled to see that they’re still producing the in-ride magazine and staffing the cars with many (exceedingly friendly and capable) agents, even at midnight.

Ridership is growing 6% a week.
